Bibliography
Description
"Dick didn't like titles. He thought a picture should do its job without a title. But for some reason he decided to title this work. Someone asked him to provide a title for it, perhaps Paul Kantor or a client of his who was considering buying it, though in the end Kantor failed to sell it. Dick asked me what I thought it should be called. I knew he was reading Stendahl's 'The Green Huntsman' at the time, so that's what I suggested and he took it. This work and 'A Day at the Race' [catalogue raisonné no. 1242] were added as jokes. 'The Archer' [catalogue raisonné no. 1245] was not a joking title." —Phyllis Diebenkorn (August 14, 2012)
